HD Youth Center

TrueNorth's charitable cause for the months of November and December is Cedar Rapids' HD Youth Center, a local organization founded by Henry Davison in 1997 to provide working parents in Cedar Rapids' core neighborhoods with a safe place for their children to go after school. The HD Youth Center depends entirely on donations and offers their services free-of-charge to anyone in need of assistance.

About The HD Youth Center:

Over is 18 years of existence, the HD Youth Center has provided safe, structured and supervised care to at-risk youth in the Cedar Rapids area. In 2008, the Youth Center was destroyed in the city flood. In the wake of this devastating loss, countless volunteers came together to rebuild the center where it stands today on Mount Vernon Road SE. HD Youth Center takes pride in not only providing after-school care, but also funds an evening-meal program to ensure that no child in their care leaves the facility hungry.

Some facts about the HD Youth Center:

  • The mission of the HD Youth Center is to develop responsible community members and leaders through meaningful and engaging activities.
  • The HD Youth Center's after-school program serves children ages 5-17. Yearly enrollment is limited to 35 children.
  • HD Youth Center's sponsored events include an easter egg hunt, backpack and school supply distribution, and a summer meal program. For more information, visit the HD Youth Center's About Us page.

  • November 19th marks TrueNorth's annual Casual for a Cause Holiday Lunch. For $7, TrueNorth staff and producers will be treated to a pot-luck style meal provided by our Casual for a Cause team.
  • The week of Thanksgiving, TrueNorth staff can elect to dress casual for the entire week in exchange for a $10 donation to the Cedar Rapids HD Youth Center.
  • November 30th - December 3rd, TrueNorth will be hosting a raffle where staff can buy tickets for a chance to win a gift basket assembled by each division.  A special prize incentive will be awarded to the team that raises the most money for their basket.
  • We'll finish our holiday fundraising for HD Youth Center with yet another bake sale - this time sponsored by TrueNorth Wealth Management.
