Charitable Giving: Iowa Humane Alliance
Iowa Humane Alliance Mission: "We envision a state where all companion animals have safe long-term homes, where feral cats are valued and protected, and where euthanasia is no longer used as a form of population control."
TrueNorth has chosen the Iowa Humane Alliance as our non-profit for the month of April. This local Cedar Rapids organization was founded in 2013 as Iowa's first non-profit spay and neuter clinic and prides themselves in offering high quality services to those who cannot afford vet services at a local clinic.
For many abandoned animals, Iowa Humane Alliance is the pet's first stop before finding a family and home to care for them. The clinic works in tandom with local rescue organizations and animal shelters to provide low-cost spaying, neutering, micro-chipping and immunization options to individuals looking to adopt animals as pets. Iowa Humane Alliance also offers their services to any responsible pet owner at a rate they can afford.
Since its beginnings, Iowa Humane Alliance has also made strides to reduce the feral cat population within Cedar Rapids city limits - a problem the city has faced since the flood of 2008. In founding TNR (an acronym standing for Trap, Neuter, and Return), The Humane Allinace safely traps feral cats, vaccinate and spay or neuter them, then return the cats to the area where they were found. The cats are then free to live out their natural lives, but cannot reproduce and are no longer a rabies threat. Code enformcement and animal control have developed a system to recognize these cats and leave them to hunt the area for unwanted rodents.
TrueNorth's Fundraising Activitities - and How You Can Help!
Our activities this month include a breakfast buffet and a pet bake sale with treats for treats for the pets of TrueNorth employees. Employees will also be dressed "casual for a cause" on Wednesday, April 29th.
