REPOST: Insurance: DEFINED

This was originally posted last year but thought it might be good to refresh you on what exactly insurance does and is.
So why should you worry about what insurance is, REALLY? And why is it a necessary “evil” for us when we own a car, house or boat? Let’s talk this through and see what we come up with.

Dictionary.com defines insurance as, “the act, system, or business of insuring property, life, one’s person, etc., against loss or harm arising in specified contingencies, as fire, accident, death, disablement, or the like, in consideration of a payment proportionate to the risk involved.” I don’t know about you but I say,” Huh?” at the end of this definition. So let’s talk about what it really means.

The way to look at insurance is as an opportunity; an opportunity to protect what you felt was an important investment. Buying insurance means you are being pro-active in ownership and preventing a catastrophic event (i.e. Not just of your property but loss of a significant amount of your cash, too!) from happening to something that you think is worth it. In its simplest form, it is a way to save yourself the heartache that unexpected incidents can cause.

So the next time you are thinking about insurance, switch your mindset to one that enjoys protecting what you own! It really is that simple.
