One TrueNorth means a pledge to our communities

The three firms that originally founded TrueNorth had many things in common; one of the most important threads was how rooted each were in the community. Over the past 20 years, our philanthropic and volunteer efforts have evolved to reflect the breadth and scope of our growing workforce, industries and associations. We continue to demonstrate as One TrueNorth, what good we can accomplish when we focus our collective energy toward a worthy cause.

In 2023, our philanthropic efforts exceeded $1.3 million. These funds came through various channels, including TrueNorth’s core giving commitment, employee match programs, colleague contributions, quarterly community outreach initiatives and the Community Grants awarded by the TrueNorth Legacy Foundation.

TrueNorth Community Impact Fund

Our work aligns closely with TrueNorth’s purpose: we create value by investing, serving, and extending our resources. That impact is felt within our organization and is carried outward into the communities we serve. As we grow, so can our impact.

We are immensely proud of the impact TrueNorth makes in the communities where our colleagues, clients, and industry partners live and work along with the causes they support. Our Community Impact Fund is our core giving commitment which prioritizes those causes.

TrueNorth recently implemented an annual Community Impact Fund application process to better organize the hundreds of requests for support. This application process occurs annually in the September timeframe to fund projects, events, and other requests for the following calendar year. If funds are requested outside this window, we will review the requests for consideration as funds are available.

The TrueNorth Community Impact funds are contributions and sponsorships that align with our six philanthropic pillars:

  • Children and Education
  • Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion
  • Emergency Preparedness and Response
  • Health and Wellness
  • Entrepreneurialism and Innovation
  • Vibrant Communities

If you would like to apply for TrueNorth’s Community Impact Funding, please use the button below to our community impact software platform Submittable. The annual application opens September 1st with a deadline of October 1st. Organizations who are selected to receive funds will be notified in November.

TrueNorth Legacy Foundation

The TrueNorth Legacy Foundation furthers TrueNorth’s commitment to our colleagues and communities, paying respect to the philanthropic legacy of our Founders and serving as a vehicle to perpetuate that legacy for years to come.

Celebrating its first full grant cycle in 2023, our private foundation offers a long-term investment strategy to assist in advancing our philanthropic goals and provides the ability to fulfill grants for larger capital style campaigns within our communities. The TrueNorth Legacy Foundation Community Grants are awarded on an annual basis.

In addition to the Community Grants awarded by the TrueNorth Legacy Foundation, The Founders Fund exists to recognize a TrueNorth colleague for their commitment to a community organization through volunteerism and other means. This award celebrates a TrueNorth colleague’s community impact and includes a $10,000 grant to the organization they support.

The TrueNorth Legacy Foundation’s Community Grants align with three of TrueNorth’s philanthropic pillars. They include:

  • Children and Education
  • Emergency Preparedness and Response
  • Vibrant Communities

Grant recipients are chosen based on three key criteria: They present a need and future vision for a transformational gift; demonstrate alignment with the foundation’s philanthropic pillars; and possess a champion from within TrueNorth’s colleague base.

Applications for both the TrueNorth Legacy Foundation’s Community Grants and Founder’s Fund Awards are colleague initiated through an internal nomination process. Nominations are open to colleagues for Community Grants in May and Founders Fund Awards in August.

In 2022 the Foundation awarded its first annual Founders Fund award. The award recognizes one TrueNorth colleague for their exceptional commitment to a community organization through volunteerism and other means. In addition to colleague recognition, the Founders Fund contributes $10,000 to their chosen cause in recognition of the colleague’s commitment. “Our hope is that a gift of this stature will be transformative to the cause receiving it.” said Matt Evans, Board President of TrueNorth’s Legacy Foundation
